Most commonly, these are magnetite particles formed as a result of corrosion of steel elements in the installation, such as radiators, pipes, or the heat exchanger. Naturally, these particles are undesirable. A strong magnet placed inside the filter attracts metal debris, preventing it from further circulating in the system – and this is the simple yet effective working principle of magnetic filters. For this reason, they are also referred to as dirt separators.

Even a small amount of contaminants can lead to reduced efficiency, poorer heat transfer, and in extreme cases, device failure. The presence of a magnetic filter does not only affect the lifespan of the gas boiler – removing contaminants from the system benefits virtually all of its components.
