Heat Exchanger for Heating Freshwater Pools Nordic Tec B360 110 kW
Shell-and-tube heat exchanger primarily used for heating pools - a device with a power of 110 kW
* Nominal power - 105 kW (360 kBTU/h)
- The B360 pool heat exchanger achieves 105 kW power when using water-water media, assuming a temperature difference of 60 °C between them (100% efficiency).
Efficiency at different temperature differences between media:
- 60 °C = 100%
- 50 °C = 85%
- 40 °C = 70%
- 30 °C = 55%
If glycol is used as the heating medium, the heat transfer efficiency will decrease by approximately 8-15% (depending on the mixing ratio of glycol and water - the value of 8% is assumed for 30% glycol concentration, and 15% for 50% glycol concentration).
* Heat exchange surface area, i.e., the surface area of the tubes inside the heat exchanger - 0.85 m²
* Material of the heat exchanger - Stainless steel - AISI 316L with an anti-corrosion system
* Operating pressure - up to 6 bar
* Connections -
- 2x 1.5 inch GW - connections for the heating medium - K1 and K4
- 2x 2 inch GW - connections for the heated medium - K3 and K2
* Suggested pool volume:
- up to 120 m³ nominally, with a temperature difference between media of approx. 60 °C and appropriate flow rates
- If the heating parameters are insufficient, the suggested volume may not be adequately served by the pool heat exchanger.
* Flow rate
- heating medium - 48 l/min
- heated medium - 358 l/min
* Maximum operating temperature - up to 208 °C
* Dimensions:
- length with connections - 830 mm
- diameter - 90 mm
* Weight - 6.50 kg
* Certified product - PED 97/23/EC, ISO9001
* High flow rate with low pressure losses
* Designed with self-cleaning capability
* Applications (including non-traditional)
- Underfloor heating
- Pools, spas, and hot water tanks
- De-icing driveways and parking lots
- as a heat exchanger for: Fireplaces, boilers, solar systems, and other heating devices related to central heating and hot water
- Industrial applications as oil coolers, engine coolers, drive system coolers, samples in boiler systems
Connection method for B360 110 kW pool heat exchangers:
- K1 - inlet of the heating medium (entry of the hot medium coming from the heat source)
- K2 - outlet of the heated medium (exit of the pool water, return to the pool)
- K3 - inlet of the heated medium (entry of the pool water to be heated)
- K4 - outlet of the heating medium (exit of the hot medium, return to the heat source)
Pool heat exchangers are connected in a counterflow manner, as shown in the image above, to achieve maximum heat transfer efficiency.

Heat exchanger for a pool of 50 m³ or even 100 m³ – what size pool can the B360 pool heat exchanger handle?
The main factor determining the size of the pool that the B360 heat exchanger can handle is the parameters of the heat source – its power, the supply temperature it provides, and the flow rates of hot water (heating medium) it can ensure. Remember that the pool heat exchanger – as a device transferring heat – is merely steel shaped in a specific way and acts as a heat transfer medium. The heat exchanger itself does not produce heat but only transfers it to the pool water – and if the heat source is not powerful enough, a larger heat exchanger will not help much in heating. Nevertheless, the B360 pool heat exchanger is already a device of considerable size and, under appropriate conditions, can handle pools of up to 100 or 120 m³.
The temperature difference between the heating medium and the pool water is very important. It is assumed that if it is 60 °C and there are sufficiently high flow rates on both sides, the heat exchanger achieves 105 kW – provided the heat source can deliver this power. This would be sufficient to heat a pool of 120 cubic meters in a fully satisfactory manner.
In practice, when our pool is heated by a heating boiler (using any fuel) set to a supply temperature of about 50-60 °C (i.e., the temperature difference between the media is only about 25-30 °C), the B360 pool heat exchanger works excellently for pools with several tens of thousands of liters of water – e.g., pools of 50 m³ or 60 m³. Unfortunately, selecting a heat exchanger for a pool is so complex that precise information cannot be provided in a short post and should be done individually each time.
