Swimming Pool Heat Exchanger B85 25kW
* Nominal power - 16 kW (55 kBTU/h)
-
The swimming pool heat exchanger B85 achieves its nominal power - so 25 kW - when using water/water as the medium ( without the use of glycol or any antifreeze fluids ) with a temperature delta of 60 °C (between the 2 sides of a HE). It doesn't mean - for example- that the pool heat exchanger B85 is capable to perform 25 kW with low temperature supply - for example in combination with a low temperature heat source as - heat pumps.
In the case of decreasing the temperature delta - between the hot side and the pool side, the final heat transfer, measured in kW, decreases up to the following scheme:
- For 60°C, it is 100%
- For 50°C = 85%
- For 40°C = 70%
- For 30°C = 55%
- for lower differences - using the bigger pool heat exchanger should be considered.
- If you use glycol or simialr antifreeze liquid - the heat exchange will be hindered - by approximately 8 - 15%. The final decrease would depend on the degree of glycol concentration. This factor should be taken into account - when swimming pool heat exchanger sizing
- Swimming pool heat exchanger B85 is made Stainless Steel 316L - invented to work with highly chlorinated water, restistant to pool water treatment chemistry.
The tubular heat exchanger B85 is not suitable for saltwater, sea water or any water with salt. Check the titanium equivalent - the pool heat exchanger 25 kW titanium for saltwater.
-
Nominal flow rates of a HE:
- Heating medium - heat side - 31 l/min
- Heated medium - pool water side - 213 l/min
When it comes to the pool heating - it is strongly advised - to have a higher flow rate on the pool water side, compared to the heating side (heat source side). This ensures a proper, balanced temperature increase - without the need to introduce a significant volume of hot water into the pool, which could be dangerous and not comfortable
- The working pressure of pool heat exchanger B85 - 6 bar. This is the maximal allowed value, sufficient for pool heating or some refrigeration applications. It is however not enough fo media such as freons, R refrigerants, which require much higher pressure resistance
- Test Pressure - cca 10 bar
-
The connections for the media of HE B85:
- 2x 3/4" female thread - connections for the heating side - K1-K4 - the tube side
- 2x 1" thread - connections for the pool water - K3-K2 - the jacket side
-
The suggested pool volume
- Nominally 10-30 m3 with nominal conditions, when having a 60°C temperature difference between the media and appropriate flow rates.
- In practice, with lower temperature supply than the one mentioned, the pool heat exchanger 25 kW can handle smaller pool heating or water tanks such as jacuzzis, whirlpools or hut tubs. It is still one of the smallest heat exchanger of this type on the European market

Shell and tube heat exchanger B85 applications
- UFH systems, due to their ability to handle very low flow resistances and making almost no pressure drops
- Pool heat Exchangers - classic solution for swiming pool heating systems
- Hot tub heat exchangers - working as heater for spa, jacuzzi, hot tubs and other water tanks, where the free flow with low pressure drop is appreciated
- Thawing driveways and parking lots, where tubular heat exchangers can heat glycol efficiently, for the purpose of deicing
- Handling fireplaces with water jackets, small boilers, solar systems (glycol), and other heating devices related to CH or DHW
- Many industrial applications - especially cooling systems - as oil coolers, engine coolers, drivetrain coolers, sample coolers in boiler installations etc
Swimming Pool Heat Exchanger B85 - 0,25 m² - Heat Transfer Area
Heat exchange surface area - is indeed a crucial parameter - determining the efficiency of swimming pool heat exchangers. In fact it is the vital parameter of every type of a heat exchanger, inluding classic Plate models. As we see in the above chart - the B85 pool heat exchanger is the 2nd smallest HE among all the shell and tube heat exchangers in Nordic Tec Catalogue. It is designed so - for small garden pools, but also for spa or hot water tanks (jacuzzis or hot tubs).

Pool Heat Exchangers require counter-flow connection
The counterflow rule (as we can see in the schema above) means that the heating medium (for example the hot water from the boiler or a heat pump) must flow in the opposite direction to the pool water. The rule is a key, it should be definitely applied in case for swimming pool heating or heating of hot tubs. All Nordic Tec heat exchangers for swimming pools - the direction of flow can be freely changed, the water can flow in both directions. It is important to note however - that forgeting the counterflow principle will definitely reduce heat exchange efficiency, and our pool heating fo may not meet its performance expectations.
Heat exchanger for hot tub - 25 kW by Nordic Tec
If you nned a heat exchanger for hot tub, the B85 by Nordic Tec is an excellent choice. It is capable of effectively heating garden pools - but it it can efficiently heat water in a jacuzzi or hot tub too, even if you require a higher temperature than what is typically found in regular pools. Whether you have an open-flame heating device - like a wood-fired stove or a fireplace for a wood-burning jacuzzi, or an adapted home heating system powered by a condensing boiler, coal boiler, pellets, wood burner, or any other fuel - a heat pump, there is a viable option to connect the water circulation system with the heat source using this specific heat exchanger for hot tub.
