Compared to foam and PIR, PUR stands out for its exceptional ability to adhere tightly to surfaces, making it highly effective in maintaining thermal comfort and optimizing energy consumption.

Reflective mats and aluminum foil – an additional insulating layer

Reflective mats and aluminum foil can significantly improve the efficiency of underfloor heating systems. Their function is to reflect heat back into the room, allowing for better utilization of thermal energy and reducing losses. In practice, reflective mats and aluminum foil are often used as a complement to other insulating materials. They can increase the energy efficiency of the heating system, leading to greater thermal comfort and lower operating costs.

How to choose the right insulation for underfloor heating systems?

Selecting the right insulation for underfloor heating is a key element in ensuring energy efficiency and thermal comfort in a building. Both the structure of the substrate and the type of flooring on which the system will be installed should be taken into account. In older buildings, it is particularly important to protect against moisture and eliminate thermal bridges, which can lead to heat loss and reduced heating efficiency. The type of underfloor heating affects the insulation requirements:

  • For hydronic underfloor heating, where heat is distributed through a system of pipes, the insulation should effectively retain heat and be moisture-resistant.
  • In electric underfloor heating, where heat is generated by heating cables, it is crucial to use materials with high thermal insulation to minimize energy losses.

Additional protective layers, such as vapor barriers, can increase system efficiency and protect the insulation from moisture. The final choice should be tailored to the specifics of the building and user expectations to ensure optimal performance of the underfloor heating system.

Underlay for panels – which materials work best?

The right underlay for panels in underfloor heating systems not only affects thermal efficiency but also the acoustic comfort of the rooms. A well-chosen underlay improves heat conduction and reduces noise, which is particularly important in multi-level homes and apartments.

The most commonly used materials include:

  • Polyurethane-mineral underlays (PUM) – offer excellent thermal and acoustic properties, making them a modern solution.
  • Cork underlays – provide natural thermal and acoustic insulation, making them an eco-friendly choice.
